Intrepid ecologists <a title=\"Orissa\" href=\"http:\/\/home.uchicago.edu\/~omoulton\/OMM\/Home.html\">Orissa Moulton<\/a> and <a title=\"Hilary\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biology.washington.edu\/users\/hilary-hayford\">Hilary Hayford<\/a> came along to show us how to standardize quadrat elevations above low water (laser levelers are pretty cool) and to help us ID invertebrates and algae. The rest of the afternoon was spent housekeeping and prepping group and personal gear for the longboat trip.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/salishseasciences.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC_0265.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"DSC_0265\" src=\"http:\/\/salishseasciences.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC_0265-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Guest chefs Ken and Susan joined us to relieve personnel from cooking responsibilities while prep continued. <a title=\"Carolyn Friedman\" href=\"http:\/\/fish.washington.edu\/people\/friedman\/\">Professor Carolyn Friedman<\/a> and son, Nick, joined us for dinner and a lesson on ocean chemistry and the ocean acidification project we&#8217;ll be conducting while out on the longboat this week.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/salishseasciences.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC_0271.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"DSC_0271\" src=\"http:\/\/salishseasciences.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC_0271-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/salishseasciences.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC_0281.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"DSC_0281\" src=\"http:\/\/salishseasciences.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC_0281-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re headed out for six days in the wilds of the San Juan Islands and waterways so the posting will be intermittent.
